Neurodiversity Assessments

Understanding ADHD, Autism, and Learning Profiles Across the Lifespan

At The Psychology Group, we believe that every mind deserves to be understood with compassion, expertise, and respect. Our neurodiversity assessments provide both children and adults with a clear, strengths focussed, evidence-based understanding of their cognitive and developmental profiles.

Taking a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach to ensure the highest standard of care, we provide services for the assessment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), dyslexia, learning difficulties, and intellectual ability (IQ).

What Is a Neurodiversity Assessment?

A neurodiversity assessment is a structured, comprehensive process that aims to identify and understand neurodevelopmental conditions.

Our assessments explore:

  • ADHD (Inattentive, Hyperactive-Impulsive, and Combined Presentations)

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Dyslexia and specific learning disorders

  • Intellectual functioning (IQ assessments)

Our focus is not on applying labels, but rather on understanding each individual’s unique strengths, challenges, and support needs — helping them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Who might benefit from an assessment?

An assessment may be appropriate if you, your child, or someone you care for:

  • Has persistent difficulties with attention, focus, hyperactivity, or impulsivity

  • Experiences challenges with communication, social interactions, or adapting to change

  • Struggles with reading, writing, mathematics, or overall academic performance

  • Displays difficulties that impact relationships, learning, work, or daily life

  • Feels “different” from peers and seeks deeper understanding of themselves

  • Has been recommended for further assessment by a teacher, GP, or other healthcare provider

It is important to remember that neurodivergent traits can present differently across development and between individuals — early or later-in-life assessments can provide significant benefits at any stage.

How the process works at The Psychology Group

We strive to make the assessment journey clear, supportive, and clinically robust.

1. Referral or Self-Referral

You can be referred by your General Practitioner (GP) or self-refer by completing our online booking form. We welcome both pathways.

2. Allocation to the Appropriate Clinician

Once your referral is received, we carefully allocate you to one of our highly trained Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, or Nurse Practitioners, depending on the specific needs identified.

3. Comprehensive Multi-Disciplinary Assessment

Our clinicians draw from a range of internationally recognised, evidence-based tools, which may include:

  • Rating scales

  • Learning and academic assessments

  • Intellectual ability measures

  • Structured clinical interviews and developmental history gathering

  • Input from parents, educators, or others where relevant (with consent)

We work together as a multi-disciplinary team (MDT), integrating perspectives and expertise to ensure a comprehensive understanding of each individual.

4. Recommendations and Next Steps

Following assessment, we provide:

  • A clear, detailed report summarising findings

  • Tailored recommendations for therapeutic supports, educational accommodations, or workplace adjustments

  • Where appropriate, discussions around medical treatment options

If indicated, medication can be discussed and prescribed by our Nurse Practitioner or referred to our Psychiatrist for ongoing management. Medical treatment is never considered in isolation, but as one part of a holistic, individualised plan.

Why Is an Evidence-Based Assessment Important?

Research consistently shows that early identification and appropriate support significantly improve long-term outcomes for individuals with ADHD, Autism, and learning differences.

Accurate assessment enables:

  • Access to targeted interventions and therapies

  • Development of self-understanding and self-advocacy skills

  • Implementation of effective strategies in education, employment, and daily life

  • Reduction in secondary difficulties such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem

At The Psychology Group, we are committed to empowering individuals and families with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the world with confidence.
